Tuesday's Thoughts: Raising a Happy Child...

Little minds can be very complicated minds. The mere fact that they're young — even extremely young — does not mean that they don’t experience a world of complex feelings and thoughts. What does it take to decipher their complex minds and raise a happy, secure child? I'll like to share 5 tips from this article which I found to be helpful.

He Climbs, He Falls

Building Up Responsibilities

My children have always been blessed for having their mother (yah ME!) around, picking up after them without having to lay a finger on most chores. Though I try to inculcate essential habits like bringing their cups to the sink when they are done drinking or picking up their soiled clothes on the floor everyday, it seems quite futile. So I end up doing these things for them which they have taken for granted.

"We’re not going to the zoo"

If there was an award given to The Meanest Parent on Planet Earth, I would probably get it.

Last week, Vera was due to visit the zoo with her friends at school. However, she had been disobedient the day before, kicking up a fuss when my godmother picked her up from school. She refused to leave the school and insisted that my mother go and pick her up instead. And it didn’t stop at that. After lunch, she refused to nap at her usual time and was still awake 2 hours later. She only went down after a few spanks on the bum. Come dinner-time, she refused to eat when asked. She had her dinner late as a result, and it was only when daddy came home and asked her to eat!

She was downright uncooperative and difficult the entire day.

Because it wasn’t an isolated case, and she had given my godmother a headache a few times throughout the past two weeks, we decided that this warranted a serious punishment.

And so we took the zoo trip away from her.

Crafternoons with Poppy: Juice Carton Lantern

When I was a little girl, I would carry one of those cellophane lanterns during the Mid-Autumn Festival. You know, the roosters and rabbits with the real candles. This was a time before the noisy battery operated ones came on to the market. According to my mum, my lanterns never lasted more than a couple of minutes because they'd catch fire as soon as we got to our destination. Which somehow always seemed to be Katong Park.

I don't actually remember carrying the lanterns, but I do remember walking around in the dark alot, so I suppose my mum's memory of my lantern carrying days are quite accurate.
