Blog Feature: I want a busy life no more.

It was like getting the flu. I was hit without warning. Perhaps there were signs, but I didn't notice them. By the time I noticed them, I was on the way to a slow recovery.

Well, I'm not talking about literally falling ill. I wish it was, then it would have been easier to deal with.

I'm not sure what to call it. Burning out? Maybe. Exhaustion? Perhaps, since there was a time when I was sleeping just four, five hours a day.

Day 20, 13 August 2012:
by Angeline of Princess Dana Diaries

As a young girl, I grew up and schooled in Clementi. Our first matrimonial home was in Clementi, hence this town has a special spot in my heart.

With the theme "Play Centre in the West", West Coast Park underwent major redevelopments in 2000 and has since been transformed into a haven for park goers who enjoy challenging and adventurous activities. Standing at the centre of the park is an amazing Adventure Play Area which is one of the largest in Singapore with play equipment such as 'Tall Rope Pyramid' and 'Flying Fox'. It's no wonder this park is teeming with families and children in tow on weekends and weekday evenings, flying kites, having picnic, camping in tents, playing soccer or simply just enjoying some outdoor time together.

Day 19, 12 August 2012:
by Sharon of Oak Tree Baby

We live a little off the island… no I’m just kidding. When people whom we first met asked us where we lived, we almost always hear a silence, followed by an awkward “er.. where is that huh?”.

We are in fact quite close to Johor Bahru. I would say, probably the closest neighbourhood right after Woodlands. I spent most of my teenage years at “Coughing Hill” (Bukit Batok) but moved to “Long Hill” (Bukit Panjang) in my adult years and continued living at Bukit Panjang since I got married. It must be a good move as the name suggest!

Since this place is so secretly tucked away, I shall reveal all the secrets I know about here! Come with me and find out why this town is so charming to adults and kids alike.

Day 17, 10 August 2012:
My Singapore, My Home
by Summer of A Happy Mum

I've never thought that I would leave Singapore.

Well, the one and only time I had my fortune read with tarot cards, which was at a media event and that was the only attractive booth, the fortune teller predicted that I would one day migrate. Which I laughed and said impossible because I loved Singapore way too much.

It turned out I really left home for four long years.

So he was half right in saying that. Then again, he also said I would fall in love with an exoticman which didn't happen.

Day 16, 9 August 2012:
by Justina of Mum in the Making

Speaking of National Day, here are some of the things that we miss about home:

:: Being with friends and family. And attending church, and Sunday school for Junior J!

:: All the local yummies: We miss slurping the yummy beef noodles at Marine Parade Central. We think fondly of the times we spent sweating it out amidst steaming kettles of hot water, and having oh-so-fresh steamed fish with our bak kut teh at Owen Road. We miss queueing up at Adam Road for our Nasi Lemak, and in Chinatown for the silky soft kway teow that goes with our yong tau foo (ok, the queueing up not so much).

Day 15, 8 August 2012:
Punggol
by Wendy of Ling Family

Last time Punggol used to be called "Ponggol" { means hurling sticks at the branches of fruit trees to bring them down to the ground in malay} and there used to be lots of farmhouses, villages and plantations before this place was developed into Punggol 21, or which is known as Punggol New Town.

Guess what.. there used to be a "Zoo" here in Punggol.. Even before theSingapore Zoo is built.

Blog Feature: Breakfast for Champions Series (Mini Cottage Pies!)

When I first knew that Adora from The Gingerbread Mum was going to host a Breakfast for champions linky party, these mini cottage pies which I used to make for my little one came to mind! It’s been such a long time since I made them and I was really quite excited to make them once again - but this time I changed the recipe and they turned out even more delish!

My little girl loves all things mini – perhaps because she is sopetite. Hence, when I cook for her, I have to make sure that the size of the food is sorta bite-sized - to entice her to eat (she’s no foodie you see).

And breakfast is one of the hardest meals to make her eat because she is all grouchy and lazy and just, well, difficult to get her out of bed.

Blog Feature: Handling Our Anger Better.

If you are a parent, I’m sure you’ve had days that are just … very,VERY mentally exhausting.

If you’re a non-parent, picture the following … perhaps this will help in better understanding what I mean :

You slept for just 4 hours last night. Your child no. 1 was rude and unappreciative before she left for school. Soon after, while rushing to shower, you knocked your little toe – HARD – on the bedside table. Child no. 2 woke up and yelled out, ‘MOMMYYYY … WHERE ARE YOUUU?’, waking up the littlest baby, who then started crying very loudly. You’re thirsty, hungry and just when you’re about pee, child no. 2 spilled all his milk, EVERYTHING, onto the dining table and floor, wetting your books and documents that happened to be on the table. And, your littlest baby threw her bowl of food onto the floor. And vomited.

Day 13, 6 August 2012:
Jurong
by Pamela of Tan Family Chronicles

Even before I was married, I've lived in the western half of Singapore. Thankfully hubbs was also sort of from the west, and had no objections to living in the west after marriage. Okay, we confess, we also stay in Jurong West coz at that time in 2004, there were 10,000 surplus HDB flats available and the flats in Jurong West were comparatively cheap and large. At $350k for a 132sm executive apartment, was very decent, even way back in 2004. Over the years, we have come to love Jurong even more...

Day 12, 5 August 2012:

When I first heard about this initiative, I was really excited. A post dedicated to my beloved Katong. It was like sitting for an examination for your favourite subject; the words were bound to flow easily, right? Well, not quite, as I discovered.

Katong. Or Singapore 1542 as I remember it. It's funny cos there isn't a Katong Road or Katong Street. I don't quite know where it starts or ends; I just know that those anyone who's lived there is darn proud of the fact, as I am.

I decided to start my journey by hopping on bus 155, a service I used to take a lot in my childhood. It brought me to:

Day 11, 4 August 2012:
by Estella of The Family Room

Raised in Terrific Tampines, I love everything about the place except the long traveling times to other locations. I could be biased but I think that air in the East is fresher, you can find the bestest foods in the East and people of the East are more Kampung, as in friendly and neighborly.

I married Daddy and also married the place we're living in. I miss my home but have also developed much love for our neighborhood in Bishan since I moved here.

One of our favourite neighbourhoods to explore is Serangoon Gardens, which is very near home. Come take a walk with me as I show you around this charming neighbourhood...

Day 9, 2 August 2012:
by Regina of MummyMOO

I have decided to feature the East as a place close to my heart for this bloghop initiative because I have always felt and will always feel a certain affinity for this place.

When my family migrated here from Indonesia in 1982, we chose to stay in the Siglap area. A few years later, we moved to Joo Chiat Place, where I did most of my growing up before we moved to the Queensway/Holland Road area.

I started my education with English as the first language just down the road from where I stayed - Telok Kurau Girls', which then merged with CHIJ (Opera Estate) when I was in Primary 3. When we moved to a more 'centralised' location, we find ourselves still making trips back to the East - where our hairdresser, Mum's tailor and places where we are used to getting household supplies are located. We have our food favourites, and the roads are as familiar to us as moving around our home.

Day 8, 1 August 2012:
by Rachel of Catch 40 Winks

When I first saw the theme that Sarah created for the latest series of blog hops. I thought that it will be really interesting to read about wat the other SMBs have to say about their spots in Singapore. It took me a while to convince myself that I could write anything mildly interesting about the area I live.

The thing is where I live isn’t just ordinary. It’s just well…boring and familiar. Maybe it’s the familiarity that makes my eyes gloss over the surface of things, thinking that I have seen these things before.

Getting into the swing of this exercise, I realized that walking around the neighborhood helped me to dig deeper into things, challenge myself to re-discover my surroundings.
